Hazelview Achieves Green Star Status in 2026 GRESB Assessment for Canadian Multi-Family Assets
Hazelview is pleased to announce the results of its 2026 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) assessment, reflecting performance achieved throughout 2025. Marking the firm's fifth consecutive year of participation, the results reflect Hazelview's continued commitment to integrating sustainability across its operations, investment strategy, and development activities.
Hazelview once again achieved Green Star Status in both of its submissions:
Standing Investments Score: 81 | Green Star Status
Developments Score: 70 | Green Star Status
A number of key initiatives supported Hazelview's performance during the assessment year.
Across both submissions, Hazelview maintained a strong Management Score (27.7/30), exceeding the GRESB benchmark average. This result was supported by the firm's governance framework, robust ESG policies, and comprehensive climate scenario analysis designed to better understand and manage long-term climate-related risks for multi-family assets in Canada.
Within the Standing Investments portfolio, Hazelview achieved an environmental score above the peer group average. Contributing factors included the firm's green building certifications, enhanced waste management practices, and stable year-over-year performance across key environmental indicators, including energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and water consumption. Additionally, Hazelview maintained approximately 98% data coverage for energy and greenhouse gas emissions across its Canadian multi-family portfolio, supporting greater transparency and data-driven decision-making.
Hazelview's performance was further supported by meaningful capital investments in portfolio-wide efficiency improvements. In 2025, the firm invested approximately $5.8 million in energy, greenhouse gas, and water efficiency projects designed to reduce resource consumption, improve building performance, and enhance long-term asset resilience. These investments included the installation of 14 high-efficiency boilers, 49 water retrofits and renewals, 23 building automation system (BAS) installations and upgrades, 12 pipe insulation projects, and two water submetering initiatives, among other sustainability-focused improvements implemented across the portfolio.
Within the Developments submission, Hazelview continued to demonstrate progress through its Development Design Standards Playbook, which incorporates sustainable building material considerations and best practices across development projects. The firm also strengthened its approach to measuring and tracking embodied carbon emissions throughout its development pipeline, helping to inform future design and construction decisions.
These results reflect Hazelview’s continued focus on embedding sustainability across investment, development, and operations. As industry expectations evolve, Hazelview remains focused on advancing initiatives that support operational efficiency, risk management, long-term asset resilience, and sustainable communities.
